Dentures Philadelphia - Dentures ImageDentures are an economical, removable solution to replacing missing teeth. They are often suggested for patients who want an easy way of repairing their smile's beauty and function, or for those who want a short-term solution while deciding on other options such as bridges and dental implants. Dr. David Spilkia provides both full and partial dentures, depending on the patient's situation. Full dentures are used to replace a whole arch of teeth, while partials replace just one or more within the upper or lower arch. Both are fabricated with high quality materials by a laboratory with great attention to detail. We ensure dentures look as natural as the rest of the smile, and blend in seamlessly with the current appearance. We match colors, the shape of the teeth, and the size of the teeth for a great look!

The pros, cons of immediate dentures

Unlike conventional systems, immediate dentures mean you’re never toothless. But there are limitations to this approach, as Dr. David Spilkia explains in this video. Discover how to overcome these drawbacks and choose your best option. Call the Philadelphia, PA office at (267) 463-2777.

I want to talk a little bit about dentures today. I often have patients who come to me and who have only a few teeth remaining and while the teeth they have are in poor condition and we cannot rebuild it. So we start discussing full row complete dentures. Now if we were to do dentures the traditional way it would mean taking out the teeth, allowing the gums some time to heal then making impression and going through the process of having the lab make the duress. In this scenario – it means the patient is without teeth for quite some time and most patients are not willing to go without nay tooth replacements. So we make what is called an immediate denture – in this case we take the impressions of your mouth while your teeth are still resent and the dentures are actually made before the teeth are removed. Then the very same day that the teeth are extracted, the patients get the immediate denture and they never have to be seen in public without their teeth. Now there are some drawback to doing it this way. First we cannot try this denture in to preview how it looks or make any changes to it, and so while we and the lab do our best to make it look as possible there are some times when there are some aesthetic compromises that have to be made. Second the gums will heal under the denture and as it does the retention of the denture maybe less than optimal. You can expect to use some adhesive to keep them in place – for these reasons I consider it a temporary or provisional denture. Placing the immediate denture in the mouth for 9 12 months with a 2nd set is the idea thing to do – first of all you will always have a backup or a spare in the case of an emergency but the 2nd set you are able to overcome some of the limitations of needing an immediate dentures that you can try it in – you can make all the necessary changes before it is finished and you do not complete the denture until we get your final approval.
