Philadelphia dentist explains the importance of the tooth implant procedure

Tooth Implant Procedure Philadelphia with David Spilkia Family and Cosmetic Dentistry

If you are one of the many patients in Philadelphia looking for solution to missing teeth, you should consider dental implants.

What are dental implants?

The dental implant replaces the missing tooth root. Dental implants are titanium, which is the same strong, safe material used in many orthopedic procedures. Dental implants are placed securely in the jawbone where they provide strong support for a dental restoration.

How long is the procedure?

The dental implant process can be lengthy. Once the implant is placed, it takes time for the bone to fuse around the post and healing to be complete. This can take several weeks to several months, depending on the individual. Once this healing process is complete, a crown or dentures can be placed. Patients will have temporary restorations during this time to preserve functionality.

Are they safe?

Dental implants are safe and improve oral health. Missing teeth leave space for other teeth to shift. Additionally, the jawbone can begin to deteriorate, and the bone loss will affect the contours of the face. Implants stimulate the jawbone to support the restoration as well as nearby teeth.

Will they look artificial?

Dental restorations have come a long way in recent decades. Crowns and dentures are custom fabricated to look natural and are color-matched to blend in with remaining teeth. No one will know you have artificial teeth unless you tell them!

Are they better than traditional dentures?

Traditional dentures rest on top of the gums and are held in place with suction or adhesive, which means there is a risk of them shifting or slipping out. Tooth implants sit below the gum line and become an integrated part of the mouth. You don’t have to worry about implants slipping.
