Relieve the pain and save your tooth with emergency root canals performed by Philadelphia dentist

Root canals are a treatment designed to save the structure of an infected or damaged tooth. A root canal may be scheduled during a routine exam if the dentist detects a condition that will cause bigger problems for the patient if not resolved. Being proactive will remedy conditions before they deteriorate to the point of becoming painful. With gentle and experienced care, a root canal will be a painless process that delivers long-lasting benefit to the patient.

There are other times when a root canal may be more of an emergency procedure. Unfortunately, teeth can deteriorate or become damaged, causing them to suddenly crack or break. This may lead to painful exposure of the nerves. As mentioned before, neglecting to have dental work performed as advised by the dentist may lead to deterioration and infection. This sets up a painful situation for the patient. If this occurs, the patient is going to want to find a dentist who performs emergency dentistry, including root canals, right away. For patients in and around Philadelphia, help is readily available with a call any time of the day or night to David Spilkia Family & Cosmetic Dentistry. Placing a call to (267) 463-2777 will put the caller in touch with a professional who can provide instructions to obtain relief and to secure immediate care when needed.

Pain occurs when the innermost part of the tooth, known as the pulp, becomes inflamed and infected. The pulp is made up of the nerves and blood supply which nourish the tooth, this can be very painful, and may actually spread to the gums and even into the bone. Clearly, prompt treatment is necessary to provide relief and to prevent further harm. A root canal is designed to remove the source of the pain and preserve as much of the natural tooth structure as possible. Dr. Spilkia knows that maintaining natural tooth structure is beneficial to a patient in many ways, and a root canal provides the opportunity to preserve a tooth that would otherwise need to be extracted. Following the root canal treatment, the tooth is sometimes restored with a filling, but more often a crown is placed on the tooth to restore beauty and function.

Routine dental visits will limit the need for many emergency dental procedures. Being seen and cared for during normal office hours is preferred by both the patient and the dentist; however, it is good to know that if needed, Dr. Spilkia is available with emergency root canals and other emergency dental services. Call to schedule an appointment to receive the superior level of care provided to every patient visiting our office, whether it is for routine or emergency care.
