To ease nerves, we will explain how to handle the following emergencies until you arrive at our office where you can count on gentle care.
- Toothaches – Tooth decay, trauma, or infection can cause a toothache. If you experience swelling, place an ice pack on your cheek.
- Dental crown falls off – Apply clove oil to a cotton swab and place it on the affected area to relieve pain, if needed. Then, apply a denture adhesive onto the inner surface of the crown. If you can, gently slip the crown onto the tooth.
- Broken tooth – If there is bleeding, apply a gauze pad to the affected area for about 10 minutes. To reduce swelling, place an ice pack on the outside of the mouth.
- Mouth trauma – A blow to the face may result in a knocked out tooth. The chance of saving a tooth is highest within the first hour of injury, so call us immediately. Do not remove any tissue fragments, and rinse the tooth gently with water. Place the tooth in a container of milk and bring it to your appointment.
