Your health, and the health of our dedicated staff matters to us, so going forward we will suspend all non-emergency care through May 31st. What can Philadelphia patients expect at the Dentist during their Dental Implants procedure?

Dental implants allow patients to restore their smile in a permanent manner after tooth loss. Unlike removable partial dentures and bridges, dental implants can provide Philadelphia area patients with a solution that can last a lifetime. These metal posts are surgically placed during a dental implants procedure and restored with a dental crown to act as a false tooth. With proper care, patients can enjoy their dental implants for a lifetime thanks to this amazing restorative treatment.

The dental implants procedure starts with a consultation appointment to determine one’s candidacy for treatment. Dental implants require patients to have overall good dental health and sufficient bone structure for the placement of the implant. An examination will be completed and x-rays will be taken to analyze the situation and ensure the patient can enjoy this restorative service.

The procedure is done in two phases. During the first phase, Dr. Spilkia will anesthetize the area. An incision is made in the gums where the implant will go, exposing the bone, and allowing the dentist to use a drill to create a hole for the implant. The implant is placed into this hole, and another component is used to hold the implant in place. Dr. Spilkia then stitches the gums. Over the course of several months, the process of osseointegration occurs. This stimulation of bone growth holds the dental implant securely in place in the jawbone and provides it with unsurpassed strength and stability.

During the second phase, the patient will come back to the dental office. Another incision is made and an abutment (connector) is attached to the implant. Then a dental crown, which is made in advance from impressions, is placed over the abutment.

Patients can take care of their dental implant in the same way they do their natural teeth. Brushing, flossing, and visiting the dentist regularly is the best way to maintain a healthy smile-and a healthy dental implant.

I’ve been going here for years and I’ve never had a problem. He also did my anterior crown and I’m in hygiene school and many of my peers can’t even tell it’s a crown. Dr. Spilkia is a wonderful dentist and I would not go anywhere else!
