Philadelphia area Dentist explains the Dental Implant

man and woman smiling with beautiful teeth after dental implant from Dr. David Spilkia

Missing teeth can have a negative effect on both appearance and functionality of the smile. Individuals who have lost teeth due to trauma, disease, aging, or extraction may find that they have less chewing, biting, and speaking efficiency than they once had, and may be self-conscious about their appearance. Missing teeth can directly affect one’s self-esteem, so it is important to seek a restorative solution as soon as possible to maintain the beauty and health of the smile. One way in which many patients choose to replace missing teeth is with dental implants.

Dental implants are restorative titanium posts, which are used to act as replacement tooth roots. They are surgically placed into the jawbone by Dr. Spilkia of Philadelphia. Dental implants are a popular choice of patients as they have a number of benefits. They are permanent, long lasting, beautiful, and strong. They can restore one or more teeth, and they can even be used in conjunction with full cosmetic dentures to hold them in place and provide firm support. Dental implants are a wonderful investment in the smile and can be used in many circumstances.

To be a good candidate for dental implants, patients must have sufficient bone structure. When teeth have been lost or extracted, the bone underneath may begin to disintegrate. Over time, this may keep patients from being candidates for the placement of implants. By addressing tooth loss promptly, patients can enjoy the benefits dental implants can provide.
