Get the Royal Treatment with Long-Lasting, and Natural-looking Cosmetic Dental Crowns

When you open your mouth, it’s as if you are glimpsing into a royal court because all you see are crowns. Biologically speaking, cosmetic dental crowns are the visible white parts that sit above the gum line. Unfortunately, different circumstances can compromise the integrity of your natural dental crowns. When this happens, David Spilkia Family and Cosmetic Dentistry can restore your teeth with an artificial crown, shaped to resemble the contour and shade of the surrounding teeth.

Why do I need a dental crown restoration?

A crown might be small, but this wonderful appliance addresses numerous aesthetic and functional challenges. The team at David Spilkia Family and Cosmetic Dentistry may recommend a dental crown in the following circumstances:

  • To strengthen a weakened tooth
  • Dental crowns are used to anchor a dental bridge in place
  • To cover a severely stained tooth
  • To restore a tooth cavity that’s too big for a filling or onlay/inlay
  • Dental crowns protect a tooth that has undergone a root canal
  • A tooth-shaped cap is used to complete a dental implant

One of the many benefits of receiving a dental crown from our practice is the quality of materials used. Our crowns are made from one of the most coveted materials: porcelain. This material is lauded for its beauty, resilience, and durability.

The dental crown procedure

You need at least two dental visits to get a crown completed. In the first appointment, we examine your oral health, including the tooth to be restored. If we establish that a dental crown can save it, we remove a portion of your teeth to make way for a crown. The procedure is done after numbing your mouth to reduce discomfort.

Next, we take bite impressions of your prepped teeth and send the images to a dental lab to fabricate your crowns. Before your crowns are ready, we will install temporal crowns to protect your prepared teeth.

After about two weeks, you will book another appointment to install your permanent crowns. First, we remove the temporal crowns and then try your new caps. Before bonding them in place, we may reshape their size and shade for a natural fit.

How to make your dental crown last?

Once we install your dental crown, you need to protect it to get the most mileage out of it. To start with, brush your teeth two times a day and floss daily. Although your crown is resistant to decay, the tooth underneath can be infected, compromising the overall integrity of your crown. So, optimal oral care hygiene isn’t an option.

Another habit you should observe is visiting a dentist every six months. Dental cleaning eliminates that bothersome plaque collected on your teeth and below the gums. Besides, if you feel that your crown isn’t feeling as royal as it should be, you don’t have to wait for the six months to lapse. Book an appointment immediately because the tooth underneath may suffer further damage if the crown isn’t properly seated.
